Integration Works: Inclusion & Accessibility Scholarship 2024

Scholarship Description

Integration Works, Inc. is seeking applicants for its Inclusion & Accessibility Scholarship for graduating seniors, or students earning a certificate of completion, from Hueneme High School. This scholarship is designed to support and encourage aspiring individuals who are passionate about pursuing a career in the social services field, with a particular focus on working with people who have intellectual or developmental disabilities. Equally, this scholarship is intended for individuals with personal experience advocating for more inclusion or accessibility in their own lives, the lives of others, or for their community.

The Inclusion & Accessibility Scholarship offers financial assistance from a fund of $1,000.00 to students who demonstrate a commitment to fostering inclusive environments and promoting accessibility for individuals, with an emphasis on individuals with intellectual or developmental disabilities. The scholarship aims to recognize and reward those who embody the values of empathy, acceptance, and dedication to creating a more inclusive and accessible society.

Eligibility Requirements

1. Must be a graduating senior from Hueneme High School, or a student earning a certificate of completion from OUHSD; and

1. Should intend to pursue higher education in a social services-related field, such as social work, psychology, special education, or a related discipline; and/or

1. Should showcase a strong commitment to promoting inclusion and accessibility for individuals with intellectual or developmental disabilities.

Application Process

- Personal Statement

INSTRUCTIONS: Describe your commitment to fostering inclusive environments and promoting accessibility for yourself, for others, or for your community. Choose one of the following options to submit your personal statement.

1. Essay (500 – 800 words), OR

1. Video Essay (2:00 – 5:00 minutes)

- Statements of Recommendation

INSTRUCTIONS: Submit no more than 2 statements of recommendation from teachers, mentors, community leaders, or other individuals who can attest to your character and personal statement. Letters should not exceed 500 words, if they submit a letter. Videos should not exceed 2:00 minutes if they submit a video.

- Description of Extracurricular Involvement or Lived Experience

INSTRUCTIONS: Describe your involvement in extracurricular activities, volunteer work, or community service related to social services, disability advocacy, and fostering a more inclusive and accessible society. Do not exceed 500 words if you submit an essay. Do not exceed 2:00 minutes if you submit a video.
